Return from China

I am back from China! I returned last week actually but have been so busy that I have just got round to posting....Apologies for not sending messages when I was away...Facebook and blogs are inaccessible in China.

The photo was taken in the Tibetan part of Yunnan, at a town called Zhongdian, or Shangrila as they have now renamed it. This was at a mushroom and yak cheese market...so tasty!

I visited a NGO called the Shangri-la handicraft womens centre, which was set up to encourage tourists to buy local as well as promoting indigenous crafts. The centre have also set up a small library and english centre to teach local Tibetan children english. If any of you have any english books that you no longer need, or teaching materials please send them in as I will organise a mail-out in the near future. Click here to see their site...

Anyway good to be back and look forward to working with you all over the autumn months...

Raft Race Evening Barbeque at Banff Day Services.

Last night the the Raft Race Inclusion Project team had a barbeque and presentation evening at Banff Day Services, which was also attended by the Chief Executive of Aberdeenshire Council, Colin McKenzie.
The evening was a huge success and we would like to say a big thank you to all who attended.
The evening started with a brilliant 30 minute film about the project, documenting everything from raft planning and building right through to the actual raft race. The film was testament to the huge amount of work that took place in the project. Certificates were also presented to all involved in Banff Day Services and Brighter Horizons.

The B-B-Q afterwards was delicious and we would like to say a big thank you to all the cooks involved.

Well Done everyone! Any ideas for the next project? Post your ideas on the blog...

August 27th - Heritage Group

We left Doo'cot View at 9.45am for Banff Day Services - we boarded the bus at 10am and headed for Dufftown. When we arrived there the Spirit of Speyside was on the platform waiting. The train was built in 1959 and as we boarded the train bound for Keith we seen lots of things from the window. 30 minutes later we arrived in Keith - we had our lunch on the bus in the station car park before heading home, it was a super day. by Kathleen Brown.

Kathleen enjoying the view from the train.

Ethel. first trip on a Train, she loved the trip, the view from the train was better than the view from a bus, she passed mountains, lakes, Donkeys. Sheep, Highland Cattle. she would like to go on longer journey as her first trip was only 30 minutes.
There will be no stopping Ethel now (we wonder where she will go next)

We miss you Ashley!

Ashley was with us for a few weeks in June visiting from the Anna Ritchie School. She really enjoyed herself and made a lot of new friends. We look forward to seeing her soon again at B.D.S.

Thursday outsiders group

On Thursday 26th of August I enjoyed walking up the back of Bennachie to a peak called Little Oxen. I was fine with the climb but my legs were sore and I was hot. When I got to the top I felt great and the view was great and we sat and had our lunch .
