the brave souls
Friday the 23rd July the photograph group went to Gardenstown also known as ( Gamrie ) to have a look around and take some photos, we had a grand day out and the weather was good for a change and we had a picnic lunch at the harbour. Eleanor who is one of the volunteers at the heritage centre opened the centre for us and gave us tea and scones and pancakes which was very nice. W e were lucky to have been able to take some photographs inside the centre, two of the photos up on the wall were of Eleanor mum as a young girl in her 20 ths she is still going strong; she is 93 years old now they must have had a hard life working with herring all these years ago. There is a good photo of Eleanor and her mum. Eleanor and her husband explained all about Gamrie in the old days, the harbour used to be full of fishing boats with sails, these days there is a few small boats fishing for lobster and crab in the summer and some pleasure boats. There is also a new cafe cafe opened at the harbour in a old warehouse, they are open for snacks from 2.00 to 4.00 in the afternoon and 6.00 to 9.00 in the evening it looks very nice, it is called 'Harbucks' Some of our group were brave and went out side the harbour on a small boat round the bay and some went for a walk round the harbour. It was nice to see the toilets open and the disabled toilet was nice and clean with hot water. Blog by Alan Gove
Gardenstown 2010
On Friday, 23rd July 2010 the photography group visited the wee village of Gardenstown
We all enjoyed ourselves very much indeed and had a fantastic day out
We took lots of photos
We went for walks and had a relaxez vous in the warm sunshine and some of us went out on a boat - I was terrified of this It was a sad moment when we had to travel back to BDS

I lived for many years in Seatown, Gamrie and have many memories of the town and neighbours. The trip to the heritage centre sounded very interesting and I now want to go and visit myself.
