Coast Bus

COAST Festival was a huge success in Banff and Macduff and we would like to thank everyone involved for all the hard work over the last few months. Brenda Ward, the leader of the creative arts group at Banff Day Services, created beautifully decorated buses for the event. These were designed and decorated by the creative arts group which runs from Kingswell. One was themed on a reading room and the other was decorated with goodies from an afternoon tea. We will post more photos later today so do enjoy...

harry's news

In Harry's news reports BP have fixed the oil well and ended the oil spill coming from the oil well. They fixed it by using mud and corete to plug the oil well, Barack Obama has said that BP will pay full responsibility for the danger.

In India Maoist groups have bombed a train, killing 65 people and dozens injured. The reason why the groups bombed the train was because of the government contolling the areas they want.

In other news in Jamaica there have been gun fights with police and drug gangs. This is because the Jamaican government wants to extradite Chrisphter 'Gus' Dusas an drug leader to the USA and his followers are killing police officers so that he does not get arrested.

That is Harry's news for today!

Photography Group

Alan mentioned last week that he wanted to work on a self-portrait so that is exactly what we did this week! We looked at a book by David Hockney which was full of his photo collages. You can see examples of his work by licking on this link;

We plan to join together images of ourselves to make huge portraits - everyone worked so hard this week and we are all feeling confident with the new digital SLR camera. Well Done!

A big thank you to Harry who was back with us this week - he has started a weekly blog on world news aptly titled, "Harry's news." We look forward to catching up with his blog every Friday. Bye for now....Enjoy the weekend!

Harry's news

Hello, my name is Harry and I have just come to banff day services and I am here to talk to you about the news this week. In news it's about the oil spill near Louisana; scientists say the oil spill could hit a major current and go up to Florida, but scientists say they can burn the oil with chemicals that isn't harmful to the wild life and the sea. In other news the red shirt protesters in Thailand have stopped protesting after the army destroyed their camps; 83 people were killed and dozens were injured and that's the news, thank you.

I have news addresses to look up the websites for more details. I put cnn, sky and bbc news because they are my favorite ones.

Car wash

In this weeks Banffshire Journal there was an article called "Horizon looks brighter for youth charity" dated Tuesday19th May about the raft race. However there was a mistake as it stated the car wash was this Saturday. The car wash has already taken place and we are pleased to announce that over £300 was raised for charity.
Click above to see a video of the car wash ...

News from Boyndie

The woodworkers secured a commission to produce 2 freestanding boards where people can stick their heads though and have their photo taken. This photo shows Alasdair and Tracy trying out the new product which is to be used by Coast festival at the end of the month.

Boyndie blunderbirds were called into action on Tuseday when one of the fish tried to escape, The fish had broken though the keep net and was in danger of cooking with the sun, fortunately Paul, Gillian, Timmy and Fergus were on hand to avert any danger. The fish was returned and is now fine

Busy Monday

Good afternoon followers. We have had another busy day in the computing room. This morning I printed photos of the Raft Race to make into a scrapbook - there are hundreds so it is taking a long time! Marie typed up the story of the raft project onto the MAC laptop where we are compiling a hard back photo book.

We had Angela in with us today - she is a student nurse from Aberdeen and is here on placement for the rest of the week. She was a great help today so a big thank you to her.

We are all keeping our fingers crossed for Kathleen who is off on holiday to Spain tomorrow. The airport in Aberdeen was open the last time we checked on Twitter so we are hoping it stays that way! Lets hope the volcano has calmed down by tomorrow... Anyway keep following and enjoy Angela's diary below...

Busy Week...

It's 4.15 pm on a Friday and we have had a busy and amazing week! We had a session today in the computing group with the photography class and here are some of the results for you to enjoy...

It was the birthday of one of the group yesterday and we celebrated today with some delicious cake. The top photo which was taken by Senor Michael, as he likes to be called, reminds me of an early Martin Parr photograph. Take a look at his website and see if you agree with me as we will discuss it next week. Leave comments at the bottom of this page if you like...

http://www.martinparr.com/

Alan was working on a portrait with Andy - he wants a full body shot so we are working towards that. We are all still working out how to use the new digital SLR and how to master Photoshop. However as I keep reminding my group, do not be afraid to zoom in when taking pictures. This photo has room for improvement! Check back next week and see how the group are progressing.

We are off on a trip next week to a local castle so we will post photos once we have them.

Enjoy your weekend and don't forget the carwash tomorrow at B.E.A.T.

Boyndie installs planters

The planter were made for Portessie Primary and measure 2 meters square by 800mm deep they were installed and built by Boyndie woodworkers, the boxes are used by the pupils to grow fruit and veg as part of a green project.

Banff Day Services developed from Boyndie Day Centre as a community based service to meet the needs of adults with learning difficulties currently living in the community after leaving hospital or full time education. originally the service began in a public hall in Whitehills, but later moved to the old Primary School at Boyndie, three miles from Banff.
The facility at Boyndie has been retained as a vocational training and business development unit: we currently provide training in four areas, woodwork, horticulture, catering and screen printing. Individuals and other groups make use of the building.
