the brave souls

Friday the 23rd July the photograph group went to Gardenstown also known as ( Gamrie ) to have a look around and take some photos, we had a grand day out and the weather was good for a change and we had a picnic lunch at the harbour. Eleanor who is one of the volunteers at the heritage centre opened the centre for us and gave us tea and scones and pancakes which was very nice. W e were lucky to have been able to take some photographs inside the centre, two of the photos up on the wall were of Eleanor mum as a young girl in her 20 ths she is still going strong; she is 93 years old now they must have had a hard life working with herring all these years ago. There is a good photo of Eleanor and her mum. Eleanor and her husband explained all about Gamrie in the old days, the harbour used to be full of fishing boats with sails, these days there is a few small boats fishing for lobster and crab in the summer and some pleasure boats. There is also a new cafe cafe opened at the harbour in a old warehouse, they are open for snacks from 2.00 to 4.00 in the afternoon and 6.00 to 9.00 in the evening it looks very nice, it is called 'Harbucks' Some of our group were brave and went out side the harbour on a small boat round the bay and some went for a walk round the harbour. It was nice to see the toilets open and the disabled toilet was nice and clean with hot water. Blog by Alan Gove

Trip to Cafe Connect

On Wednesday the 14th July. Emma, Lesley and I went to cafe connect in Fraserburgh. George drove us there and back. We all agreed that it is a great project, the staff were really nice and friendly. They showed us the different things they are working on in computers, they run and maintain three websites, VisitFraserburgh, Can - Do Community Recycling and Robertson Road and a lot more besides. Afterwards we had some lunch which was very tasty and the service was great, so overall it's a place well worth a visit.
We had a look at Visit Fraserburgh, Robertson Road and the Can Do websites and we were impressed with the way they are layed out. It is obvious to see the hard work that is put into running and maintaining the sites.

Delgatie Castle

On Friday July 16th, the photo group from BDS went to Delgatie Castle near Turriff, Aberdeenshire. The weather was mixed with some sun and rain and we took photos of the castle from outside and its grounds.
The castle dates from 1030 and is steeped in Scottish History yet still gives the atmosphere of living in a large home. THey are open to the public all year round and they serve wonderful home baking and lunches ion the Laird's kitchen. There is self-catering accomodation in the castle and the Coachhouse.
The Scottish Tourist Board have awarded them four stars. They also do small weddings for 55 people and small conferences. There is also a Trout Fishery which covers over 4 acres of well-stocked trout.
It is not very wheel chair friendly as one of the party was a big lad in a big wheelchair and he could not get into the Laird's Kitchen. However the staff put a table in the front hall for lunch which was very kind of them. The disabled toilet was fine for wheelchairs.
