Huntly Castle

Huntley Castle was Built in the 12th century, it was originally named Strathbogie before the Castle was granted to Sir Adam Gorden of Huntly in the 14th century. The King Robert the Bruce was a guest at the Castle in 1307. The Castle was set ablaze in 1449 by the Earl of Moray. Although the Castle burned to the ground, a grander Castle was built in it's place. King James IV of Scotland came to Huntly Castle in 1501 to give gifts of money to the Stonemasons working on the Castle. The Gorden Clan remain ownership of the Castle until 1923 and to today the remains of the Caslte are cared for by Historic Scotland.
